Whenever I use "Send to" to the desktop I get two(2) icons that are exactly the same. I have attempted to delete one of them only to discover both had been deleted. When I restore from the Recycle Bin I, again get two icons.
I read "somewhere " to modify the registry. I did as suggested....no luck.
If anyone out there has had and corrected this problem I'd appreciate any advice that will help me to correct this.
    Thank you

trackmaker60745--Do I understand that you get two shortcuts on the Desktop when you right click on a file and then Send to|Desktop (create shortcut)?
There are several fixes for Send to Desktop.
I believe these usually are for restoring Send to Desktop when it is missing or no longer works. So, if just running one of these does not help, you might want to first open your C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\SendTo folder, delete the existing "Desktop (create shortcut)" shortcut, and then use one of these fixes to create, hopefully, a normally working one.

If none of the above helps, you could also try this

I know it does not seem to address your problem, but it will not hurt anything if nothing else has worked.

I came across this in the May (UK) edition of Personal Computer World ......

The problem of duplicate icons on the Desktop can occur when the common desktop and the user desktop are set to the same folder.

Run Regedit and check out these two registry keys ....

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Explorer \User Shell Folders and look in the right hand pane for a string value named 'Desktop'. This should be set to %USERPROFILE%\Desktop

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Explorer \User Shell Folders and look in the right hand pane for a string value named 'Common Desktop'. This should be set to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop

If either of these entries are incorrect export the string and then edit (in Regedit) by double clicking on the Desktop or Common Desktop value to get the editing box.

To return the settings to what they were double click on the .reg file that you exported before editing.

    PeteC,
Thank you so much. I followed your suggestions, corrected the problem and now have my "pristine" desktop back again.
    I really appreciate your help.
