Does anyone know of a driver clean up utility. I have found several driver back up programs but have yet to find a utility which will identify and/or delete any unused drivers.

    There is a reason!

Drivers are small and harmless unless tied into the rest of the system. The tie-in is AFAIK a set of keys in the registry.

What the user can see is

    - device and driver entries inthe System control panel which interacts in a very complicated way with . .

    - the Plug and Play infrastructure and the corresponding autoinstallation wizard

I have seen so many drivers failing to install, and so many cases of PnP REINSTALLING SOMETHING THAT HAD JUST BEEN INSTALLED BY THE INSTALLER PROVIDED BY THE PERIPHERAL SUPPLIER if not VICE VERSA (which at least would require a dumb and voluntary human intervention) that I am now convinced that no one, not even Microsoft, knows exacty how the process works.

Yes there may be such an utility, but I think only a brave or reckless individual may want to write it.

Backing up the whole system (apps, drivers, OS, etc etc) via Norton Ghost or another boot OS like Linux works much better.
