    Hi

I have been trying to troubleshoot a friend's new broadband connection.
He was supplied with a speedtouch USB modem by his provider.
The Modem installs no problem and there is a working connection..this has been checked and verified..connection is aok...BUT when you try to open IE you get nothing...it just wont connect to the web...Trying Netscape gives the same result...it reports a socket layer problem...I'm pulling my hair out over this ......

Been through everything..running XP pro...reinstalled IE...still no joy..any ideas would be very much appreciated....

    Thanks

We've had several folks post USB connection failure problems recently. Several were 'cured' by switching the USB ports they were trying to use. If the PC has USB ports on front and back as many newer ones do, change from front to back or vice versa.

Speculation (since no one is really sure) is that based on how the system is constructed, either front or back USB ports aren't getting enough power and networking seems to demand more than many USB applications so a port that does fine with mouse or camera may totally fail to run a network connection.
