I used netscape 7.1 for a few weeks to a month. Everything worked great. All of a sudden I can't download. So I found the post on unable to download. So I followed the instrutions, I deleted the files that it said to delete. Still no downloading. So I removed netscape and all the files. Also run regedit, removed all the files in there. Reinstalled netscape still no downloading. So I created a new profile, Downloaded netscape and reinstalled. Still no downloading. I even went to tools menu, clicked on download manager, And theres nothing there. What I mean is when I click on download manager, download manager does not pop up. What am I doing wrong or what am I missing. I sure miss useing netscape. Any help would be great. I'm useing XP. Thank-You

    Hi Zek,

    The two files to delete:

    compreg.dat
    Located in: C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\components
    downloads.rdf
    Located in the *.slt folder
See this page for your Profiles Folder Location

Uninstalling/reinstalling Netscape won't cure the download problem. All you're doing is installing a new compreg.dat file, which works for a while.... Check this page for more details on Unable to Download

My advice to you would be to move on to Mozilla 1.6.

    No Go

First of all, thank you replying to my post. I must have tried this four or five times. Still can't download. I installed mozilla 1.6 and the same thing. When I go to tools, download manager and click on this there's nothing there. I did this so many times I know i'm doing it right. When I followed the instrutions there was no downloads.rdf. Evertime I tried this there is no downloads.rdf file. I think my problem all started when I ran a spyware remover program. Any more suggestions. Thank-You for your help.

    Hi zek,

You really are having a terrible time, aren't you! I note that you are running Windows XP, and wonder if you are doing this in order to view all your files:

    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

The downloads.rdf file should be here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

When you uninstalled Netscape 7.1, did you Reboot your PC before installing Mozilla 1.6?
    Did you delete this folder:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
    Did you delete this folder:
    C:\Program Files | Common Files | mozilla.org | GRE | 1.4f_2003062408

Have you tried creating a new Profile? If not, that would be the next step. See this guideline:
    Create a New Profile

    Back up

Thank-You for your reply, I kept trying your instructions, I don't know what I was doing before but I figured it out. I got my download manager back. I think it was because I was not restarting my computer. Once again thank you for all your help. Great to have netscape back to the way it was before.
