The file, while downloaded might be recognized as an MP3. But once completely downloaded, it is an MP3 file. You save it like any other file, in a folder.

Or if it's over your head, mp3 is the file extension. It is a file format like .jpg is a file format for graphics. To save it to a desired folder, you first have to find the folder to where it was downloaded

Programs, like WMP and WinAmp associate the location of the folder. In addition, I use Direct CD (a packet writing program) to save my MP3s to CD. The Melissa virus likes to eat MP3s. I only use a 56K dialup. I don't want to lose my files.

If I understand right, you want to know how to save an mp3 instead of, or after opening it in WMP7 from an internet link.

In WMP6.4 after playing an .mp3 you simply click on File, then "save as" then save the file as usual. I'm guessing that WMP7 should be similar.

If you have not yet clicked on the .mp3 link to open it in WMP, here is how to save the file, from http://www.mangossubic.com/greatest_hits1.htm (where there are a number of "classic" mp3 files available for free download):

    Download Instructions

Right click on the mp3 files and select Save Target As to download to your hard drive. This will allow you to save the file without the media player trying to open it. Once you save the file to disk you can then log off the internet and open the file from the location you saved it to on your drive.

In any player, when listening to an mp3 that is being downloaded, the SaveAs link will be grayed out or inactive until gthe file is completely finished being downloaded.

Some MP3's don not activate the SaveAs link in Media Player. You will have to copy the mp3 from the temp internet files folder.
