    Hi,

I'm having problems downloading from the internet. The problem is that whatever I download, it doesn't get downloaded completely. Say, if the file I'm downloading is 10 MB, only less than 100 KB gets downloaded and soon "File Download Complete" dialog box appears. When I click on the file that was downloaded, it says "not a valid Win32 application" and when I check the file size its only around 40 KB. I tried with both IE6 and Firefox. In both the cases, I'm facing this problem. Please help...

    Thanks & Regards,
    Babu

    Hi Bambu,
Do you get a prompt in your toolbar that is asking your permission to download Active X file ???

No Master! I'm not getting that prompt. Straight away the dialog box pops up asking me whether I would like to open or save the file. Is something wrong with my system?

    Hello babu,

Are you using any download acceleration/compression software?

Any event after which this started happening? such as software updates - MS Updates - problems such as software/system crash.

Charlie! I'm not using any acceleration/compression software for downloading. I don't remember which event exactly triggered this problem. But I'm noticing this problem since I rolled back to IE6 from IE7. Could that be a cause for this problem?

    Hi Babu,

Check if the problem is one of the add-ons of IE6:

IE tools > manage > add-ons. Try disabling one by one, or disable all and if the problem is gone, re enable one by one.

    If no joy:

IE6 repair with info on re installing IE6

Also check your Firewall or Security Suite settings - may be setup for IE7 and now another browser being used.

Are you running a Norton product?

I've moved your thread to the IE section of the BBS.

Which suggests that the problem is not browser specific or browser related.

    However, for IE 7 .....

Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab and under Internet, click "Custom Level ". Scroll down to "Downloads" and check what your settings are ....

Automatic prompting for file downloads - Disable
    File download - Enable
    Font download - Enable

Nothing of any specific relevance I could find on Google - a word with your ISP may be in order unless Charles' suggestions re. firewall and AV bear fruit.
