Basics: New system, running XP home, Celeron-D processor, 512 RAM, came with 60-day trial of MS Office 2003 (Student-teacher edition). The trial period is about to expire, and there are no students or teachers in my family. Hence, MS Office 2003 is going to run $239 or so.

So I get these frequent SPAM offers for buying software at very low prices.
To quote Star Wars, I have a bad feeling about this. Is it legal? Is it a bad idea? Advice?

    Steer well clear.

There are other options depending on which Office Components you require -MS Works suite has a full copy of Word plus simple spreadsheet and database.

You might consider Ability Office or Star Office. More possibilities here ....

Everything I've read or heard first-hand experiences on that software indicates what you get is copied (i.e., pirated) copies of Office and the disks often arrive without a product key so it can't be installed anyway.

There are good free alternatives to MS Office. PC Suite 602 is free for personal use, handles MS Office file formats and the interface is almost identical to MS Office.

Another is Open Office. I have no experience with it but it is well recommended by users.
