    hi there,
I was having problems in updating NET 2.0 (like many others did). So I stopped trying. But now (with vs. 3.5 out) there are already apps that need 3.5 which I couldn´t install due to the fact that my vs. 2.0 is not fully updated. All my installed programs that need dotNET are running just fine.
So my big (and maybe stupid) question is:
Will my installed programs that depend on dotNET still be working AFTER a complete uninstall (1.1, 2.0, 3.0) and reinstall of vs. 1.1 plus 3.5 (which I take as an upgraded substitute for 2.0 and 3.0). Or do I have to reinstall them? (Many of these apps are commercial programs I got from GAOTD, so e reinstall wouldn´t be an option).
    Many thanks for any help!
    Werner

you can use this application to check and fix if something is wrong or missing in .net
    http://www.tmgdevelopment.co.uk/versioncheck.htm

or to check .net version without any application,
    Two ways:
    1. check the Windows Registry for
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot
    2. check for a local directory like
    %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\<version>
    where <version> is
    v1.1.4322 - for .NET Framework v1.1
    v1.0.3705 - for .NET Framework v1.0

and i saw this in my bookmark tab but never try before, sounds convincing anyway...

    Many thanks m3ow!
I downloaded the versionchecker and will see whether it gives any clue to what is causing this problem when trying to update (in my case) dotNET 2.0.
But as for the rest: I have dotNET 1.1/2.0/3.0 installed and working. Programs depending on or needing dotNET are working too.
My doubt is: Any program depending on dotNET registers itself with dotNET upon install? Or does it merely check for the existence of dotNET once called to start? In the latter case I should be able to uninstall/reinstall dotNET and these programs would still be working.
    So, what gives??
    Anyone has any idea??
