Sure glad there's a place like this to ask a question. Here goes. The daughter of a friend of mine was poking around Windows Explorer and tried to open a file. The "Open With" option came up and, not knowing what she was doing, she picked the first thing, Adobe Acrobat. It didn't work, but all of a sudden, all of the 'doc' files in his system changed to the Acrobat icon. Now whenever he tries to open a 'doc' file, he must manually select Word Pad, I believe, and override Adobe Acrobat.
    Wha happened??
I've tried to figure out a way to invoke the "Open With" command to see if I could get the icons to change back some way. No luck.
    Any Suggestions?

You never said what he was using to view "docs" before this happen. You need to change file association. Right click on my computer, explore, view, folder options, file types. Then scroll till you find what ever program he was using before this happen. Highlight it, click edit, then edit again. In the "application used to perform this action ", you will have to browse and find the path for the exe. program to open this with. If it was MS Word, you would look for the "winword exe" program. Post back good or bad.

m plumley--You should be able to invoke the Open With... option by holidng down Shift and simultaneously clicking on a .doc file. Open With... should be an option. Click on it, and in the window which opens, scroll to the program you want to use to open .doc files (such as Word or Wordpad), highlight it and then check the box at the bottom at the window "Always use this program to open... ".

    And another way:

Left click on a .DOC file once to highlight it. Hold down the Shift key and right click on the file, choose Open With. Then scroll to whichever program you want to use.

Thank you all. Problem solved with the Shift Right click to get to "Open With ". I Changed one file back to Word Pad, and that corrected all the rest.
Just for fun I tried to find some reference in Help as to how to get to the "Open With" command. So far, I can't find a thing.
    Thanks again.
