Something strange is happening. When I shut down my computer for more than a few minutes, when I start later it no longer display in 1280x800, but at a much lower resolution. When I go to CP>Display>Settings, it shows 1280x800, but I can see that it's not the case. I have to reboot 2, 3 or 4 times to make it go back to the normal resolution. When I shut it down for a short time, it never happens.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Power on your monitor a few minutes before your computer & see if it solves your problem.

I was facing a similar problem with my computer & found out by trial & error that if I switched on my display a few seconds before my computer, the resolution would be ok.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I'm using a laptop, I can't start the monitor before the computer.

Are you having any other issues with the laptop?

Is the date and time correct?

Did you make any changes just before this problem occured?

Please provide the details of your laptop, make, model, etc.

No, no other issues. It's a Lenovo G530 I bought new in May 09. It runs XP Pro SP3. The time and date are correct. I made no changes other than the regular MS updates. The problem showed up within the 1st year, I don't remember exactly when.

I'm guessing along the same lines (I think) as Mark, ie a Hardware issue.

First off make sure you have the latest drivers for your laptop, next I would check your memory and finally...

When these errors occur are you sleeping/hibernating the laptop or actually shutting it down?

Note: even if your memory passes the tests...

From the link Wildfire has given, you can get the drivers for the display and a hard drive test.

Uninstall the old display driver and install the new one and run the hard drives test. You could also replace the graphics driver.

Not much else I can think of at the moment this is an error I have not come across before.
