I had this posted in another forum for past few days without any suggestions. Can anyone help from this forum?

I changed my administrators password a couple of months ago and a week or so ago, noticed that my diskcleaner (cleanmgr.exe)which was set to go on each night at a certain time, was not working and realized that I had not seen it go on for awhile.
I checked the log in Windows and it first said that it was not working because of the wrong administrators name or password. I rechecked my password and tried again and it still is not working but this time the log gives no reason. At times it shows itself on my desktop but does not advance.( I have Home version of Windows XP)
Thanks for any ideas or help

    Remove it from Scheduler.

Then reinstall it to the scheduler.

Thanks Mike, I had tried that and it didn't work. BUT I did try something that I saw in one of the earlier posts in this forum(Can not locate it now) and it mentioned running "chk dsk f" and apparently when it asked me to put in my windows xp CD.......( I had to clik on try again, numerous times but it did finish.) I checked the scheduler and it has now worked twice now. Once, manually, last time automatically by scheduler. So what ever was wrong, it is now corrected.
    Thanks anyway

Linda - if chkdsk /f fixed problems but needed the XP CD, you should also do start~run~sfc /scannow.

Newt, I am so glad you responded ! I am a bit embarassed and had to recheck what I wrote earlier in answering Mike.
It was backwards, what I had done . I did do a chkdsk and THEN I did the ..........start~run~sfc /scannow and had to insert my CD for Windows xp then.
    Pls excuse me in that.
(I had to clarify that to clear up any confusion I may have caused)

Whew. Really glad to hear that. Normal behavior with sfc if there are files to be replaced. But with chkdsk it would be on par with a fish brushing it's teeth. :D

If you did replace files with the sfc /scannow and the CD you used didn't contain the latest service pack, you need to reapply the service pack since the files that were replaced could have been earlier versions. That's a big reason that many of us recommend making a slipstreamed install CD where you combine the original XP and the SP on a single CD but intergrate the two.

    (Love that remark!) Lol

I had thought of that ,when CD was in and running, I have NO idea which files were the ones I needed installed but which ever, they probably all were replaced per the CD. Meaning, I need to reinstall Service pack 1?
I hope I can still do that, since they now have sp 1a out .
I don't think I would have the patience and confidence to make a slipstreamed install CD.

SP-1a would be fine - better than just the SP-1 in fact. Make sure you download a copy though and run it from your hard drive.

The main selling points for a slipstreamed CD with the latest SP are
    - less hassle if you ever need to let SFC replace files and for folks who are doing a clean install
    - install with a slipstreamed CD seems to work better and with fewer problems than an OS install followed by a SP update.

But for those of us who got XP in the dark ages before SP1, you only need to build a slipstreamed CD if you plan to do SFC a lot. And I have to confess I have them seperate myself.
