I hope someone can help with this one- while playing a game(1602AD)I got a disc write error "unable to write to disc in drive C - data or files may be lost" I also get this message when trying to laod another game or program-puter then freezes and teh only way to shut it down is to crash- after which I get a scan disk but after teh scan disk it wants to do a complete disk surface scan-2to 3 hours each time-anyone have a clue? Is it windows or is the HD crapping out? Other then loading programs functions are normal-files, mail, web surfing, etc.

Hi eddieb, Is this a new, recent problem - or occurs only since you got thegame/s ? What is the PC spec and video card type ? How old is the PC ?
If you uninstall the game/s does the PC respond normally ?
Which other programs cause the freeze ? I assume you have done a
    check for malware, viri etc.
    regards

Thanks for replying Merlin- all the above has been happening on a friends PC - the games run correctly on my own PC- this error message only started after I had played the game for a while on the friends puter- all other functions run normallywithout the scan disk-'looking for bad cluster' messages I went to the Western Digital web site and downloaded thier diag program onto a floppie then ran that in DOS and it found no errors on the HD( this following recom. on a similar thread dating from 2002 with the same problem) a friend suggested that the problem was probably in the HD- running games makes teh HD work more then does normal PC operation, and the ball bearings in teh HD may be wearing out and teh HD overheating each time a game is played or the HD is asked to work a lot dling a program from disc-any suggestions or comments on the possibility of this being the correct malfunction would be greatly appreciated-

Sorry Merlin didnt mean to confuse you- When I posted my original message the web page showed similar posts from teh archives, I was following the recom. found there- perhaps you might use teh search function on BBS - disk write error- go to page 3 "disk write error on drive C" posted 12 jan 2002-from there you will see why I ran a diag on my HD
