I am running Win2K Pro and have two disk drives in my system. I want to allow the local drive C to be used by all but want to keep the second drive for administration access only. Yes, I am new to 2000 and need the help of y'all. Any suggestions for keeping the D drive protected? Thanks!

Add Administrator full control to the disk drive and remove all other permissions.

And you need to do exactly as Bursley said.

I messed up years ago when rather than removing groups, I set to "deny" access to the Everyone group. Guess what that does.

The way the NT permissions thing works is a user will have the most restrictive set of permissions if he/she belongs to more than one group. And everyone belongs to the "everyone" group. Including the admin.

Does the drive need to be an NTFS drive?

Does the drive need to be an NTFS drive to restrict permission? Thanks for helping me with my learning curve...right now it is pretty flat :)

You will have some security options with FAT32. Much more secure than any of the Win9X systems. NTFS has more options available and is my preference.

    Many Thanks!

Thanks to both of you for your advice. I converted my drives to a NTFS format and all the permissions I needed were there. Hope I can help y'all someday.
