This seems to have been solved by SP1. Install SP1 when you get a chance. In the meantime..........

    Go to Start > Run.

    Type: regedt32

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Volume Caches

Find CompressOldFiles in the right pane.

    Right-click and remove it.

    Close regedt32.

Right-click My Computer, Properties. That will tell you if you have Service Pack 1 installed. If not, you can get it at Windows Update:

    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

If you have a fast connection, you may prefer to download the entire SP1 (the so-called 'Network Installation ") in case you ever need to install it again:

    http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/

This is actually SP1a which has the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine removed. You can download the Java VM separately:

I guess SP1 didn't solve that Disk Cleanup problem.
