Today the power went off while the computer was on. When I got home the Setup screen was displayed despite the "Restore on AC Power Loss" being set to "Stays off ".

While in Setup I noticed only 256MB of RAM was being recognized. This is half of what should be there. The computer came with 256MB and I added another DIMM a while back with no problems. The computer now only recognizes 256MB even after reboots. (In computer properties it also reads 256MB)

    In Setup it reads:
    Bank 0 256 MP PC133
    Bank 1 Not installed

I am thinking a bad DIMM. How can I confirm that without replacing it? Was the power failure a cause or a coincidence? I have a good quality surge suppressor. Also why didn't the computer stay off when the power came back on? It was off for more than 20 minutes.

    Thanks.

Move the stick from bank one to bank zero and try it by itself.

Thanks. That worked. It was a bad DIMM. Best Buy replaced it under the manufacturer's warranty and the new one works great.
