If I put a new video card(PCI)in a Compaq Presario 5003US, would I have to disable the onboard video in Bios for it to work???

    mojo13,

With my Aptiva, I didn't have to disable the onboard to install the new video card. The card automatically disabled the chip for me. Now, it's suppose to work this way. Some other Aptiva owners had to disable their chip to get the upgrade to work.

    mojo13,

It depends on the motherboard. I have seen it onboard video that disables automatically as in MinnesotaMike's case. I've also seen system that required turning it off in the BIOS. Others may actually require moving a physical jumper on the motherboard.

Below is a link to the Compaq hardware site. If you put in your serial number or allow them to autodetect your system you should be able to get more information on your motherboard and how to disable the video.

    Compaq Hardware Lookup Site

    Cheers,
