I am running Windows 98 on a Pentium 3 computer. I bought a disc with Mah-Jongg on it and as it needed DirectX9 to run it I downloaded it.
It comes up with the message that it wants me to change my colour from 16bit to 32 bit and that the Graphics card does not have enough memory to run it.
This is what is written on the back of the game cover: PENTIUM2 500MHZ, 64MB RAM, 120MB HARD DISC SPACE, 800 X 600 SCREEN RESOLUTION, 16-BIT COLOUR, DIRECTX9 COMPATIBLE 3D GRAPHICS CARD WITH AT LEAST 32 MB RAM, DIRECTX9 COMPATIBLE SOUND CARD, CD ROM, MOUSE, WINDOWS 98, ME, 2000 & XP.
Would anyone know what I would need - or am missing that would prevent the game from playing??
    Hoping you can help.
I have now checked my details regarding my Graphics card and this is the message I got:
HARDWARE ACCELERATED DIRECT3D 9 IS NOT AVAILABLE BECAUSE DISPLAY DRIVER DOES NOT SUPPORT IT.
I have also checked my "Display" section and the information given is Device: NVIDIA Approx. Total Memory: 15.5MB

With this information perhaps somcan play the game or not & if I can download anything to fix problem. Thanks

From the specifications stated on the game cover and from the specs you posted on your video card it appears your video card isn't up to the task. The specs say:
Your video card doesn't support DX9 and it has only approximately 16MBs of ram. The specs say it has to have 32 and support DX9.

Sometimes the games will run even if you don't have the proper version of DX but all of the features won't be available. You're short on memory though on the video card though and that can for certain be a problem. It would appear you need to upgrade your video card if you want to play the game. Something you probably didn't want to hear but that's what it looks like to me. You can wait and see if somebody else has anything to say about it but that's my take on it.

Thanks for your reply. I also believe this is the problem so I will not buy any more games that need what my computer doesn't have! :(
Thanks for explaining it so well....makes it easier for me.
