dial tone?

    Running win ME, I got Win XP upgrade and installed it. After I did and tryed to dial up, Thire is no dial tone. Win XP fond my modum and says it is working. But had no dial tone. Uninstalled winXP and dial up works fine. Why can I nopt get dial tone after upgrade to wim XP?

    Hi Craig333
    Welcome to the boards.
    Did you go into your modem properites and check to see if perhaps XP turned the sound down?

    Open Control Panel - Click Start / Settings / Control Panel
    Open Modems - Double click the modems icon
    Highlight the modem that you wish to adjust the volume and click the Properties button (Note: do not click Dialing Properties, click the Properties button).
    Within this window you should have the capability of adjusting the volume, moving the volume adjustment all the way to the left will turn off the speaker, moving it all the way to the right will enable it at the highest volume.

    Its not that I can not hear the tone. I get a error when trying to dial up. Error no dial tone.

    What modem is it? Could be bad drivers so try latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

    It is a 56k Lucent, I will try the drivers later tonite. Thanks
