When I open Explorer and click on Desktop there are 36 icons showing in the window but only 33 show on the actual desktop. The missing icons are: My Documents, My Computer and My Network Places. Why?
How do I get these icons to appear on the desktop? When I try to create shortcuts and drag them on to the desktop I get the message that the origin and the destination are the same and thus it is an illegal; operation. Could this have something to do with not being logged in as administrator? I'm running WIN XP Pro and never logged in as anything.

Right click on your desktop, choose properties>desktop and then click on the customize desktop button. Put a checkmark next to the ones you want to appear on the desktop.
