desktop locks-up

    Shortly after booting, the desktop (all shortcuts) freezes with these consequences: I cannot move icons and I cannot use the dial-up connection. Suggestions of how to fix would be appreciated.

    What do you mean by "shortly after booting?" Do you first have access to your desktop and then it suddenly freezes or is it blocked from the very beginning? Can you run anything at all or is everything frozen?

    I believe the problem was related to the msblast.exe worm, but as I had just
    reconfigured the computer, this was not immediately apparent. Thanks for taking the time to try to help.
