I installed EMET. It then somehow got DEP going the wrong way. I uninstalled EMET. I was wrong. After finally finding DEP isn't on and i don't know how to get it back on. How do i turn it back on? The 2 choices are grayed out. Seems EMET did a lot more than just "protect" my computer. XP Pro MCE2005

    Why did you download EMET?

I have Spybot, CCleaner, Avast and EMET seemed to sound like a good extra measure of security. Now i can't get DEP on and it seems the XP OS won't let me play older games without it. Anyway i still need to get DEP on and am at loss as how to get it to let me turn it on. As i said before the choices are grayed out.

Have you tried using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a state before you installed EMET?

Look at this Setting DEP (towards the bottom) and modify the boot.ini line that contains noexecute = to read noexecute = OptIn.

If the noexecute = xxxx line isn’t there - add it like in the example using notepad.

Thank you very much ephemarial and SpywareDr !!! The system restore didn't work for some reason but changing the boot.ini file did the trick. Once i restarted everything is back to normal! :D
