When defragging my computer, it will stop at 10% and lockup. What can be the matter and how do I go about correcting it. Thanks.

Do a ctrl/alt/del and end task on everything but systray and explorer, then run your defrag. Or, do it from safe mode.

Most likely you've got too many things running in the background.

At the 10% mark, defrag is "optimizing" your programs using the info in \Applog that is maintained by Taskmon.

If you show Details and scroll to the very bottom, you should see "activity ".

Regardless, if this is a relatively new pc with a fast harddrive, this optimization buys you little.

Run MSCONFIG > Startup tab and UNselect Taskmon.
    Reboot
And,then from Explorer, browse to \Windows\Applog (ensure that the option to show all files is set), select all files and delete.

    Try defrag again.

    You're most welcome.
Yes, if that helped, you'd have to do that each time you wanted to run a defrag, as it shows you have extra apps running in the background.
Have you followed WhitPhil's advice as well?
It would be a good idea to go to start...then run...then type in msconfig, and look under the start up tab for things you can uncheck. Compare it against this list, to show you what is safe to uncheck.
Post back if you need any further help.
