    Hi,

I have always been aware of the default account and more or less what its for but got to wondering how it could be customised.

I cannot see anyway to logon to it so presumably it cannot be customised that way?

Are there any tools that should be used for this purpose or is it a case of messing with its regisrty settings?

For example I would like to change its background so that when the PC starts up I will see it at the logon screen?

    Regards PCFarmer

The Default account has nothing to do with your current settings!

It is used only when creating a new account.

I use it often. But unless you are creating new accounts left and right then I would not do it.

But if you want here is the steps I use.

M$ has a copy profile tool but I don't use it as it adds other things or removes some things so you do not get a true copy.

    The steps
    1. don't use an existing account that you have used!

    2. so create a new admin account call it say "Supervisor "
    3. configue this account exactly like you want, make it look exactly like you want it.

    When that account is ready!
    1. reboot to ensue files closed not logoff.

    2. Log on to your old original account (can not be loged on to the new account or it will not copy)

3.now rt click the Documents and Settings\Default User account and at bottom untick Read only and hidden attribs

    4. backup the Documents and Settings\Default User account by copying it to a backup location. So you can put it back if needed!

    5. now click into the Default user account ctrl A to select all and delete. You now have an empty folder.

    5. Now clear the attribs as above on the Supervisor account then enter the folder Ctrl A to select all then copy these to the empty Default User folder.

    6. Now set the Attribs back as they were.

    Reboot!

Now all new accounts you create will match the Supervisor account!
