I have about a 4 year old hp laptop that runs xp. Can someone tell me where I find out if I have dedicated memory? I thought it was in the desktop properties but do not see anything that says that.
When buying a new laptop do I want shared or dedicated memory?

If you have NVidia or ATI GPU, you would most probably have some dedicated video RAM. Its listed in the specs of the computer. If you don't have them, program like HWiNFO can also provide you with the info.

If you are doing anything which is graphics intensive, you would need a seperate GPU & RAM otherwise I don't see any need for normal internet/office work.
