I have limited information on the problem - it is occurringon my daughters computer, and she is at uni> I therefore am remote from the problem, but trying to find a fix for her.
XP Pro, has been running well for 3 months, and no new software installed recently. Windows upgrades enabled, as are security upgrades for firewalls/antivirus/spam.
On powering up, I believe soon after user log in, error message including "DCOM server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly...." and the system goes into a reboot. I believe this occurred repeatedly 3 times in succession.
After disconnecting the network link, rebooting, and reconnect after log-in, the system performed ok and internet was operational.
I am aware of Knowledgebase article 892504, but think this is not 100% relevant, although it concerns DCOM.
What otherwise could be the cause, or what are the suggestions as to a way to identify more fully the problem. I have considered a restore to previous breakpoint, but cannot see a fundamental reason to do so at this moment.
    Awaiting suggestions, thanks guys.

    Look in the Event logs:
    Start, Run, eventvwr.msc

You want to see both the SOURCE and the Error # for any DCOM event.
Normally, a DCOM launcher service termination does not cause a reboot. It is important in this case to turn off Automatic restart in the event of system errors:

Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, System Startup and Recovery -- Settings.

In mid-screen, uncheck 'Automaticly restart' in the panel for System Failure settings.

The next time a critical error occurs, the machine will stop with a Blue Screen. It is important to have your daughter write down the error Number and error text that appears exactly as displayed.

    Maybe a solution found

Just a note...... have identified the presence of SPYWARE.DSTART.A on the computer. After removal of this virus, the problem reported has not re-occured.

Thanks foy your suggestion and guidance.
