    Hi goodspeed82
    Welcome to windowsbbs. :)

You are using a old version of HJT, we need to update it.

Please delete the one you have then do the following.

Please download and install HijackThis and Run a scan then close HJT, then run Deckard's System Scanner and post the main.txt log here. Links and instructions here.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi
    OK I'll be here.

Also please rename HJT after installing it.
    Here is how.

Click on "Start "> "My Computer "> C: Drive> Double click on "Program Files" Find the Trend Micro folder and double click, now double click the HJT folder.

Right click on the Hijackthis.exe and click rename, Type in Killer.exe then click anywhere on your screen. Close out of those windows then run HJT and close it.

Then run Deckard's System Scanner and post the log.

Ask Tool bar in known for adware/Spyware, IMO I would remove it from your Add/Remove programs list, unless you are deeply attached to it and can't live without it. ;)

    Geri

    Hi goodspeed82

OK Thanks, we'll see what we can do with ask tool bar later.

    Please do this.

Now download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) from here or here and save the file to your desktop.

Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select 'Perform Quick Scan', then click Scan.
    • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note below)
    • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Post the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi goodspeed82
    OK Good.
Don't tell my wife, poof it'll be gone.:p

    OK please do this.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    O2 - BHO: Ask Toolbar BHO - {FE063DB1-4EC0-403e-8DD8-394C54984B2C} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {FE063DB9-4EC0-403e-8DD8-394C54984B2C} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close HJT.

    Please reboot.

Now lets make sure there is nothing lurking.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.
This is a good tool to get rid of the temporary garbage you pick up while surfing the net.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:

    Windows Temp
    Current User Temp
    All Users Temp
    Temporary Internet Files
    Prefetch
    Java Cache
    Recycle bin

The rest are optional - if you want it to remove everything check "Select All ".
Finally, click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on "Accept" If your pop "“up blocker blocks the ActiveX download, allow it, click on "Accept" again

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes or Install.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This will start the program and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

    Please post the Kaspersky results.

    Thanks
    Geri

I am running the program now. I dont want to pry, you have helped me out tremendously. I cant thank you enough. The ask toolbar still apears in my add remove programs but it is off the HJT log. It still wont let me delete it. Is there another path? I tried the simple throwing away the program, programs gone but still in add/remove programs after reboot. I will post log as soon as it is done. Thanks again "O mighty one ".

    Geri,
Kaspersky scan came back with 0 infected or problems. So no report to post. Thank you for all of your help. If you dont have time for the add/remove program no problem. You are busy saving the world, one unprotected downloader at a time.

    Hi goodspeed82
    OK That's good to hear.
    Glad to help out.:)

I believe that it was removed, if not it's just a empty entry in add/remove which doesn't hurt anything.
    You might check.

Please look at this link for some preventive recommendations, It could keep you from ending up back here to the Spyware and Virus Removal Forums.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=67958

    I'll mark this one resolved.

    Solution to problem

My PC recently got infected with something and I kept receiving the stated error "“ not in Internet Explorer but in Windows Explorer/ My Computer "“ almost everytime I accessed a folder.

It appears a new infection to which no one seems to have a cure yet. SpySweeper detected trojan-winbudget, and since it was only a trial version, I manually renamed the stated keys: HKLM\Software\Classes\BhoNew.BhoApp & HKLM\Software\Classes\BhoNew.BhoApp.1 to *\BhoNew.BhoAppTROJAN??. I however kept receiving the errors even after this.

After updating my BitDefender, it found C:\Windows\System32\NTSpool.exe infected with Worm.P2P.Agent.N. Even after quarantining this, I kept getting the errors.

I browsed to C:\Windows\System32, sorted files by date created. I noticed a file called pasdgan.dll "“ created roughly the time my PC got infected. I renamed it, but the infection remained. I therefore zipped the file [incase it was a legitimate file] and I deleted the pasdgan.dll file permanently via Safe Mode.

VOILA!!! The errors are gone; my PC is back to better performance! So my assumption is this pasdgan.dll file maybe the infecting file. What might also have helped is that I renamed HKLM\Software\Classes\BhoNew.BhoApp by appending and prepending the key totally e.g. HKLM\Software\Classes\TROJANBhoNew.BhoAppTROJAN

    I hope this helps someone!
