When I go on the IE the sites screen has a border exposing in the background, my desk top, on the top, and left side. The whole site is scooted to the right and down. therefore the scroll bar is not available and the taskbar? on the bottom is gone. I can`t drag it by clicking on the top blue line on this site (or any other site)clicking on the top line and dragging up or down has no effect, the same for the left sideline. The only way I could finish typing this query was to go to view, full screen. When I`m off line the screen is normal, except since this happened, my task bar has two new lines one says my computer, the other, 3 1\2 floppy.
Click on my computer nothing happens. Click on Floppy it activates the floppy drive.
These machines constantly amaze me inept as I am. What have I done? What can I do to go back to normal. I don`t like this full screen!
    Thanks

This is a starting point .

    Try choice 2 .

    W95 you have 3 choices . With W98 , if you have IE5.1 or higher & you
still have IE4 installed the following applies . No IE4 only 2 choices .
    IE5.5 if over the top of 5.1 , offers 3 choices .

You can install IE5.1 straight over 4 . A big feature with IE5 is that
it can be repaired without uninstalling . Here is how to do it . Open
Control Panel , Add / Remove , click on Microsoft Internet Explorer ,
then click on add / remove down the bottom . This opens a window with
    3 choices .

No Microsoft Internet Explorer in Control Panel !
    Start>Run , key in msinfo32 and press Enter . Click on Tools>
    IE Repair Tool .

    W2000 > Start > Run
    then enter exactly (case/space-sensitive)
    rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance
this will give you the IE Repair dialog... proceed to repair IE

Choice 1. Add , insert your IE5 install program & you can find other
items you may not have installed 1st time .

Choice 2. Repair , fixes problems that may crop up with IE5 / Outlook

Choice 3. If unfixable , removes IE5 & goes back to IE4 , now if you
want to you can reinstall IE5 or a later version or another browser
    altogether .

I apologize for not furnishing the information I should have. I`m running 95B and IE5. Iknow better I just forgot. It makes it harder for you to answer and harder for me to interpret the answer.
I`ll read your answer further and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the reply and your patience

    That`s IE 5.5 I`ve got, I find after checking.
I went the route to control panel, add remove, repair IE and still have the same problem (it did change my home page but I`ve got it back.)
I`m open for any suggestions. I have current Virus control protection and I scanned the whole ststem since this problem started.
A clue might be this, I THINK, not sure, this started when I was on crucial .com trying to order some more RAM.I asked for some tech help and a dropdown? showed up,on the left side of the screen with a space to write in my question, it moved the main screen over to display this. I`m probably wrong, sounds far fetched to me, but again I think that`s when this might have started.
Also is the fact that I`ve got that 3 1\2 floppy and my computer printed on the task bar got any thing to do with this? they weren`t there before.

I don't know about the two new items on the taskbar (My Computer and floppy drive) -do you mean icons on the quicklaunch toolbar that comes with the IE4 Desktop Update? If so then I can't help you (I never installed IE4). If you mean minimized windows, then either right-click each item on the taskbar and select 'close' or use Alt Tab to switch between open windows then close each one.

    On your IE window position:
There was another thread about the off-center IE maximized window problem with a link to http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers2.htm#window_small
and the person was able to solve his problem using the instructions given:
Since you say your taskbar is gone and the entire IE window is shifted to the right and down, first click the IE icon that is on the left side of the title bar (the top blue line) and you should get a choice to restore the window to a regular window size. Can you now see the taskbar? If so then use the mouse to "pull up" the taskbar until it is double the size. Then maximize the IE window (you can use the titlebar IE icon again to do that) and resize the taskbar back.

    Miraculous!
Got every thing back and working. The printed words (not Icons)on the task bar ( bottom bar on screen) My computer and 3 1\2 etc. disappeared with the RH click and close.
If I ever knew the IE Icon on the top blue bar did anything I`d forgotten it. Followed your instructions and got `er made.

Thank`s to you and the Australian. I appreciate the assist.

P.S. I`ve been in the electrical repair and troubleshooting business all my (long) life. This computer is the most infernal machine I`ve ever been involved with. Love it!

Glad to hear everything is working ok now.

I learned something new. I never knew about the View | Full Screen option in IE (I use Netscape mostly). Glad I noticed the "F11" after "Full Screen" otherwise I wouldn't have known how to get back to normal (hit the F11 function key) :)
