My cpu in running at 48c idle and it won't let me adj. the speed where it shoud be. Right now it's running at 1250MHz ,100/33.
When I put a big fan blowing thru the case I can get it up to speed AMD Athlon XP 2100+ at 133/33MHz . I have a big heat sink and fan on it . Its running at 3300 rpm. I have a good compound under the heat sink ,and the heat sink is over the cpu good . I have checked the temp when running at 1800MHz using one of my programs and the heat climbs in a hurry and shut the pc down when it goes over 52c and the mobo goes to 40c this with AIDA and the mobo sensors they are about the same. Does this sound like the cpu failing or what could be causing it to heat up so fast and shutting down. I have no Idea and I have spent a lot of time on it . I did take the batt. out and reset the cmos . that didn't do any good either. No I have not overclocked. Thank You for your time and support

We have similar syatems, and mine runs about that temp all the time. (123 to 130 F) I don't think the heat is excessive, but your proc not wanting to register the correct speed could be a mobo issue. You already cleared CMOS, which would have been my first suggestion...maybe look at the mobo site and see if there are any known problems or updated drivers?

I looked at the asus site and the olny thing listed is an update that concerns graphics . I have revision 1005 and the up date is 1007. I changed the mother board from an ECS k7vta3 to this one it was doing the same thing. I have ordered a new 500 watt ps . What to do What to do I dunno. I do have to turn the power off the ps and then turn it back on to get the pc to turn back on so the ps may be kicking out as I have to reset it or something like that. When the new ps gets here I'll find out .

What cpu cooler are you using? Is it high-end or the generic one that comes with retail cpus? I'm generalizing but 3300rpm sounds a bit slow.

I use a Thermalright AX-7 with mini-elbow duct and an adjustable Thermaltake Smartcase II fan set to about 5000rpm - yes, a tad noisey.

I have my XP2100+ overclocked to 11x166=1826 (166FSB) and never have any heat problems.

You might want to invest in a different cpu cooler - hard to say w/o knowing which one it is.

I just checked- my fan is running about 4300rpm, and this comp is not overclocked.

OK Now this is where I stand . I put on a new Antec cpu fan , its running 4500 rpm , the mobo temp. is 36c (97 F ) , the cpu temp. is 49c (120F) I have the cpu running at 1725 MHz , A big improvement . I set the cpu frequency ay 12.5 , the cpu external frequency at 138/35, memory frequency to auto . It does seem stable . Does this seem OK or should I set it some other way? I still have a new 500 watt PS coming and will install when it gets here.

Right now my mobo is 95 and my cpu is 120. Comp has been on all day. Those temps look just fine to me! :)

I got the new PS today installed . I got this thing cranking at 1850+MHz and it showed I had a 2200 cpu but then I set it back down to 1786. Running fine temp is staying around 45c to 49c with hard use with no problems. Thanks

    You think that's hot get a 2500 Barton :p
It heats the whole house! :p

With the Thermaltake Sub Zero cooler (almost 200.00) and the door off with a large fan blowing in the case it idles at 47*C and while playing America's Army it sits on about 63*C.
That was with it running at 2700, at 2500 it idles at about 45*C.
Im done with the AMD platforms, I have a PIV 3.2 800 MHZ FSB W/ a Abit IC7-MAX3 on the way. :p

Yep I agree I'm done with the AMD's also. They shouldn't have to run hot.
