Dear all, I wonder if anyone can help me with this problem as I'm all out of ideas.

Recently, my PC has been acting strangely. When I run Spybot, it sticks a lot before becoming unresponsive. Ad-aware also crashes, and when I use photoshop it tends to freeze up a lot, or at least slow down to the point of being unusable. When I check the processes on the task manager, it will tell me that the CPU usage is at %100 which is crazy but it also states the the program I'm running (i.e. Spybot) is using up 98% of the cpu usage. This is clearly wrong but I can't work out how to remedy it.

I previously had a bug in my system restore and now cannot restore the PC to an earlier point. I've run virus checks, registry fixers, and a different spyware program and nothing seems to fix it. I've also gone into msconfig and tried restarting without lots of processes but to no avail, whenever I open these programs the CPU usage still jumps to %100. The same thing happens in Safe Mode.

Does anyone have any suggestions because I'm all out of ideas?

    Yours Gratefully...Paradox

Run a chkdsk followed by defrag. Sometimes problems on disk can create various problems. Get them out the way first.

Thanks. I've already done a defrag a couple of days ago, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem, I'll try a chkdsk although to be honest I'm not holding out much hope.

Defrag itself is not going to solve many problems until you run chkdsk /f before it.
