I need to upgrade my son's cpu so he can use his new Call of Duty Black Ops Xmas gift.

    Current MB = Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H rev 1.0

    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3141&dl=1#ov

Clicking on the "cpu support" button lists compatible processors.

    Current CPU = AMD Athlon 2 II X2 240

The cpu i want to buy is: AMD Phenom X4 9850 Quad Core Processor HD9850XAJ4BGH - 2.50GHz

Now the questions: Does it make a difference that the current MB uses a "F4" BIOS and the chip I want to buy uses a "F1 "? Are there any other compatibility problems that I'm missing?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Your board supports the Phenom X4 9850 CPU with BIOS rev. F1.

However you may wish to upgrade BIOS to latest version F12A.
