Starting an older PC in preparation for donating. Worked when put aside (don't we all say that). Now on startup it goes to SAFE mode & displays on the BIOS screen...there was a mis-match of CPU speed. (or somthing like that.)

BIOS shows 3200 and that is what the processor speed actually is.

Not sure what to do now, any help would be appreciated.

Try going into the BIOS and look for a "Set Defaults" option and select it....If it works, shut pc down and try booting up again...Could be that the CMOS battery is dead.

Thanks. Tried the 'set defualts' and same response. New battery works. Now have a disk boot failure. So off to a new set of problems. Thanks.

So no CPU details are needed ;)

I'll paint myself into a corner now - am going to assume disk boot failure can be corrected by redetecting HDD in Bios (settings lost on battery change?) and then resetting Boot Disk priority. And, with brush still in hand, am curious if this is a socket 462 CPU which would be running at 2.2GHz (11x200) to achieve 3200+ rating seen on screen at start up. Default setup in Bios would typically mark this at something like (X x 100 or X x 133). That's why I asked for basic information rather than speculating.

    ;)
