A friend of mine has been using a Mac for years. She has many files on her Mac that were done in Claris that look like spreadsheets.

She just purchased a new PC computer. She has filed all her documents onto floppy disks but the PC does not recognize them.

Is there some program that we can convert these documents to Excel in PC so she doesn't have to retype them all over again. We don't want to buy a Mac program to convert them as she is getting rid of the Mac as soon as she is able to get the files into her PC.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Try TransMac which you can get at Download.com.

Since Macs can read most Windows formats, perhaps it's possible to re-save them on the Mac in a Windows-compatible format and then transfer them. (Just guessing...I have about 15 minutes experience with Macs ;) )

There is a product - Dataviz Conversion Plus - that will do exactly that.... Check it out at www.dataviz.com

Thanks for your help. I did look at that download site but I'm afraid that it wouldn't help me. I need to be able to transfer files from Mac format to PC format and I think this is only to be able to read the disks.

I'll keep looking around for help.

I'm afraid it looks like all of these programs have to be bought and I don't want to purchase anything as I'm only going to use is one time.

    Thanks for the help though.

Not a problem.... If your files are less than 1.4MB each, you can download a trial version of TransMac from www.asy.com (follow the links). I've never worked with this particular piece of software (a few others like it, though), but best of luck!

Edit: sorry, I just noticed (after re-reading entire thread, duh!) someone already told you about this ..... It looks like it could do it.... cut & paste form preview image maybe???

    Maxwell,

I downloaded the TransMac and it still didn't let me even open the documents on the disk. At least I was able to see what was on the Mac Disk. I guess I need Claris Works for Windows to open them and I do not have that program and don't think I can get a trial version of it.

I'm just about ready to give up.

    thanks.

    Hi,

    Thanks for all the help.

I gave up trying to convert the documents so today we opened each individual document in Claris Works
on her computer and saved each one to a PC or Word Document on a floppy disk. Brought the floppy to the PC and after changing the extension to .xls or .doc we will able to open them and then save them as a PC excel or word document.

It was an ordeal but we were able to get them on her PC. Thanks for all the help.
