Hi, I've had this problem for a long time now, and i think its time to sort it out. When i open "Control Panel" and go to "Apperance and Themes ", it doesnt display "Folder Options ". Without this i cant un-hide anything that i have hidden, i cant hide anything or customize folders. Is there anyway of getting this back into the "Control Panel "?

    Thanks

    Hi enrique86...

In Control Panel does "Folder Options" show up in the drop-down menu when you click on "Tools" on the Menu bar? If it does go into "Folder Options" under "General" tab--> "Tasks" section...change it from "Show common tasks in folder" to "Use Windows classic folders ". See if it shows up now.

If you don't see "Folder Options" in the drop-down menu there is an option under the Group Policy Editor to "Removes the Folder Options menu item from the Tools Menu ". The description of the policy reads "Removes the Folder Options item from all Windows Explorer menus and removes the Folder Options item from Control Panel. As a result users cannot use the Folder Options dialog box. "

    1) Click "Start" then select "RUN "
    2) In "RUN" window enter "gpedit.msc" (without quotes)
    3) Select "User Configuration "--> "Windows Components "--> "Windows Explorer "
    4) See if "Removes the Folder Options menu item from the Tools Menu" is Enables.

    Still No Folder Options...

Hey Dobhar, thanks for replying to my message. I still have the problem though, when i go to "Control Panel" and then "Tools ", "Folder Options" isnt there, so i click Start, then Run, and typed in "gpedit.msc" (without quotes) and it said:

"Windows Cannot find 'gpedit.msc'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button and then Search. "

    Any suggestions?

    Try this...

Look in C:\Windows\system32 folder...see if there is a file called "Control.exe ". If you do that is the "Folder Options" executable file. Just create a shortcut and place it on your desktop (or anywhere else you like).

    1) Right click an open area of the Desktop
    2) Select New | Shortcut
    3) Enter "control folders" in window and click the Next button
    4) Name the shortcut "Folder Options" then click Finish button

I have tried this and it works for me but I'm running WInXP Pro...not sure if works for WinXP Home.

I'm sure there's a registry hack somewhere  ...I just have to keep looking.
