I bought this new lenovo T60 a couple of weeks ago. I noticed my control panel is gone. I also was infected with spyware (I think). after running lavasoft spyware remover for a couple of days, I think it is clean now. I disabled " prohibit acces to control panel" through GPEDIT.MSC on the run box. It worked for a day but after each reboot I had to do this over again. now, control panel has disappeared all together and I cannot get it back.
    Please help.....

Hello rhojjati and welcome to the Board,

    Lets start with the basics.

Right click the Start button > properties.

Is the Control Panel ticked to display as a link in the Start menu?

    Hi rhojjati,

Sorry, I didn't give you all the steps, I was in Vista.

Right click the Start button > properties > Start menu tab.

Tick the Start Menu if not ticked and > Customize bar > Advanced tab and look under Start menu items.

Is the Control ticked to show as a link or menu item?

Or did you go thru all that and the CP is indeed not there?

You likely have some remnants of infection hanging around. I recommend you start a new topic in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum with the following.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges to complete the following.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) to your desktop.
    Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.

Post the contents of main.txt only for now.

If you have HijackThis, it will use it to create a HijackThis log. If you do not, it will automatically download and install HijackThis. Please keep your internet connection active and allow access through your firewall if applicable.
