    Hello all!

Can anyone think of a legitimate reason why end-users in an office would need to access the control panel?

We are considering implementing group policies in Windows to prohibit users access to the control panel, but first want to make sure there is no good reason for them to have access to it.

    What do you think?
    Thanks!

Surely makes administration easier with Control Panel and a few other items locked out. No real downside.

If a specific user has need for one of the items, you can always set up a link directly to the one item he/she needs.

    Totally agree...

At work (note: most our users run NT 4.0 SP6a...slowly migrating to WinXP), using Group Policies, we have disabled the Settings Tab for Display (to many users trying to change resolution and NT4 is unforgiving if don't "Test" first) and Network Neigbourhood. We have created an NT group called "Troubleshooting" and if a user requires us to make a change we add them to the group and walk them through it or change it for them.

We are thinking about adding a lot more to the Policy.
