I've been getting 4 -6 Email messages from admin@(my officeprefix).com, that are threatening to shut my access down or similiar threats. There are always zip files attached and I KNOW its a virus, and have never opened them, just immediately deleted the message. The attachments are typically e-mail-info.zip or account-info.zip etc.As I said I know these are viruses but how do I stop them arriving in my in-box.We have an office firewall and spam filter but they keep coming, apparently by-passing our spam filter service. This has been ongoing for many months now, and I would be appreciative of any thoughts on how to stop it.
    Thank you

Does your email software screen / filter for attachments? If yes, move all emails containing attachments to a special folder to review at your leisure. If this is a business environment / email server, this process should be global to all email and filtered attachments directed to a singular folder managed by email administrator.

If this is typical local installed software, filtering "constantly changing content" can be a tough task. When you say the phrase "our filter service" are you referring to installed software or do you pay for a service which "Pre-Filters" your email? If the latter, contact this service and ask them what information they need to properly filter out this problem email.

Thanks for your response. It is a filter service...Spamsoap, and when I sent them one of the emails, they responded with the fact that it is being sent directly to our server...they sent this.....Spam Soap received your spam report but it was found to have not routed through our servers. Instead the reported message hit your mail server directly. If you manage your own mail server and the server is not used for any domains unfiltered by spam soap then you can easily lockdown your network to prevent this problem.

If you use a shared mail server, typically provided by your ISP, you should not make these adjustments to your firewall. If you host your own mail server you can adjust your firewall or SMTP security to only allow inbound connections from Spam Soap. Blocking all other inbound SMTP traffic will help to prevent spam from being sent directly to your server and also prevent a directory harvest attack which spammers use to generate lists of valid email addresses on your server.

This is getting too difficult for me to deal with, and I'm presuming from this response that its outside of my realm of influence.Do you agree?

Do you host your own mail server? If yes, by following Spam Soaps suggestion (allow Spam Soap, block all other SMTP connections) would filter all of your email. If you could provide the program name you are using to manage email on your server (and which firewall program your using) possible someone on the forum can suggest some settings for you to try.

Thanks Dennis, I'm going to hand this problem over to our IT guy and see if he can stop these annoying Emails.I'm not sure we do host our own mail server, so I'm not equipped to move this forward. Thank you for your assistance.
