Hi, Kathryn. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

    Is this a new computer?

If this computer is not new, then has this problem only recently started occurring?

If this problem only recently started occurring, then can you recall any hardware and/or software changes you may have made immediately prior to the time the problem started occurring?

If this problem started occurring only recently, then perhaps you can use System Restore to revert your computer to the state it was in before the problem appeared.
    • Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Does the computer start up when the telephone call is terminated with any phone in the house or just with the phone that is plugged into the phone jack of your modem?

What kind of modem do you use?

hi mailman...thanks ever so much for taking the time to try and help out,for your info, the problem only started 4 days ago when we hooked upto broadband and the computer would start up whenever we terminated a call from any phone....the good news is,the problem has been solved by a friend of a friend who deactivated the "wake up on l.a.n" setting accessed through bios.in a way i am glad we experienced the problem as it has led us to this exceptional site which i have bookmarked and know will prove to be invaluble as a trouble shooting tool in future,so keep up the good work,t.t.f.n...kathryn

Thanks for your informative follow-up, Kathryn. Someone else with the same or similar problem may discover your thread and have a quick fix. :)

I'm glad your problem is resolved!

Feel free to poke around the Windows BBS fora (There's a lot of useful information here.) and, of course, feel free to ask for help any time. :)
