Okay, I know I've at least got the vxgame.exe virus, and who knows what else. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

Doing ANYTHING in Normal Mode is impossible.... over 80 processes are running, the CPU is constantly at 100% and it somehow reconfigured the administration options so that I cannot open task manager to kill processes. I get a message that says "Task Manager access has been restricted by your administrator" or something along those lines.

Additionally, instead of the normal user-profile select screen before entering windows, I get the little box that has fields for Username and Password. I've tried logging in as administrator and it won't let me, and it's created passwords for the other users (none were password protected before).

It has also reconifgured the system so that I CANNOT boot in safe-mode. It will run the list of drivers, then go to the screen with "Safe Mode" in all four corners for a moment, then a blue screen with a bunch of stuff will flash for a split second and the computer will restart.

What do I do? Has my computer met its end??? Is there any way to fix this without wiping the hard drive??? AHHHH HELP :(

Update: Now my computer will not attempt to start in any mode but Safe Mode which, as I said before, fails to load. I have tried starting it in every single other option listen in the F8 menu, and it still goes to Safe Mode, then flashes the blue screen and I think I could make out win32k.sys or something very close to that towards the bottom of the screen. It only stays up for half a second, then the computer restarts again and attempts to run in Safe Mode. It continues this cycle over and over and over again. If anyone has any clue what to do, any help at all is appreciated!!!

I would love to post a Hijack This log but, as I stated in my post, my computer will not even start now... and even if it did, Hijack This would be impossible to run. Should I post this in a different forum, then? The root cause is spyware/malware, so I posted here.

I guess you don't have your data backed up :(

There are four possible solutions to your problem ....

    1. If you are able to boot from your XP installation CD (not from a Restore CD) attempt a Repair of Windows This may or may not be successful under the circumstances - IMO it will not succeed.

    2. Attempt a Parallel Install of Windows which, if successful should enable you to back up your data. I would then make a clean install of Windows with full format of the drive.

    3. Get hold of another hard drive, install it in the computer and load Windows.
Hitch up your original hard drive as a slave and copy your data across, back it up and reformat the original drive.

    4. Boot from your XP CD and make a clean install with format - all data will be lost.
