    Hi
My brother is running 98se he bought PCcillin and updated, run check, found two viruses cleaned with PCcillin. Was told (By PCcillin) that there were windows updates needed, went to windows update and downloaded updates.
7 of them mostly IE 6 security updates.

Shut down computer (Start shutdown) and restarted his computer and now it does nothing but beep. Nothing on the screen, Black.
Tried starting with 98se CD in rom drive, nothing just beeps. Black screen, can't get into any commands, DOS nothing.

Any Ideas what we could try?

    Thanks
    Geri

    Beep Codes
BTW, do you happen to remember the virus names? Anything with CIH in it? I hope not and really do not think so as today is not near the fatal dates.
More on this here. Think Nuked computer.

That file is a modem driver file. The corruption of this may lead to the message you have posted, as this is part of your internet connection.

    Hi Mark62
    Thanks
Can you tell me how to check this driver, if I can, and a way to fix it if it is corrupted.
    Thanks

Try booting into "SAFE MODE" (press F5 during boot)

Then remove the modem from Device Manager. On next restart it should PnP the modem and ask for drivers. - Don't let it use existing files - load the driver fresh from CD.
