Computer Administator

Hello, I'm pretty new to XP home. There is one thing that is a bother to me. When I log on I must click my name before it proceeds. I am the only person using this PC so is there a way to bypass this step?

 

Yes, there is.

Go to Start>Run, type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes, with the space after "control "), click OK.

Uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer," click OK.

In the dialogue box that opens, enter the username and password of the account you want it to boot into. If there is no password, leave that blank. Click OK.

That should do it.

 

Thanks for replying Miz. I found the controls you mentioned. Uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer," click OK. I did that and upon reboot the pc hung looking for the administor. Not knowing what to do nxt, I reset it to as it was.

Hi, unfortunately those fixes did'nt work for me. It made my pc hang during startup. I "think" it was looking for an administrator. I had to put settings back to the way they were in safe mode.
