I have an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDT Laptop that is doing strange things. It has Windows 95 for it's OS and I am not sure what version of MS-DOS it is using. All of the trouble started after I deleted a bunch of old files, software, and games. I ran the 3-D compression agent on the hard drive and it crashed. The compresssion agent said it was to reboot to finish the task and that was it. Now when I boot this is what it looks like:
(The Windows 95 Icon screen appears momentarily)

    Starting Windows 95...

The following file is missing or corrupted: A:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 1

The following file is missin or corrupted: A:\DOS\EMM386.EXE
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 2

The following file is missing or corrupted: A:\DRIVERS\OAKCDROM.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 6

Warning: the high memory area (HMA) is not available.
Additional low memory (below 640k) will be used instead.

    Not ready reading drive A
    Abort, Retry, Fail?

If I try to boot from floppy (A drive), it will run the software on the boot disk (Under install the operating system) to the point that it says the following:

    Please wait while Setup initializes.

Setup is now going to perform a routine check on your system.

To continue, press Enter. To quit Setup, press ESC.
    (I press Enter)
This version of Microsoft ScanDisk will work only with MS-DOS versions 5.0 and later.
Setup found a compressed volume or a disk-cache utility on your computer. Quit Setup and check your compressed volume with your disk compression software or remove the disk-cache utility.
    Then run Setup again.

If you have already done so, press ES
    C.

For more information, see SETUP.TXT on the Setup Disk 1 or the Windows CD.

To quit Setup, press ENTER. To continue with Setup, press ESC.

If I continue it does not allow me to continue beyond the Upgrade Check-Hard Disk Search Failed.

I cannot start windows to decompress the hard drive. Is there a way to do it from MS-DOS? What should I try to get windows started?

Is there a floppy in drive A that shouldn't be there?

No the only floppy that I've placed in the floppy drive is the win95 boot disk. the win95 upgrade disk is in the cd-rom drive. I get the same story when I try to run the bootdisk and install disk; must use the compression agent or affiliated software to uncompress the file or cache. It is not anything I've ever seen before. Thank you for responding so quickly.
