My subscription to Kerio's firewall is about to expire. So, I read with interest, Scott Finnie's report on firewalls and discovered Comodo. Evidently it is highly rated and it is free. I've downloaded it but have hesitated to install it before asking for input here. In addition, Comodo also offers free AV and free Password Protection Vault which will generate passwords for you and store them under 256 bit encryption (which should be fine for the average user like myself). Again...any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

For the last month since a desktop rebuild I have run Comodo firewall on both my desktop and laptop, although the latter is rarely connected to the Internet. Initial impressions are very favourable - and third party reports good as you have seen. It asks for go aheads in the same way as Kerio and I feel comfortable with it.

How good is it? A bit like insurance - you never know until you call on it, but it comes highly rated and that's really all you can go on.

Over the past 6 months I first dumped CA (eTrust) AV in favour of NOD32 and now the CA firewall in favour of Comodo. I feel very comfortable with that combination.

Thanks, Pete. I'm inclined to go this route myself. I already have NOD32 (about one month left in my subscription) so I'll likely renew it. But why spend money "if" (and that's the 64,000 dollar "if" lol) you can have the same protection for free? That's why I wondered about Comodo's firewall "and" their other free offers. thanks for the input.
