    NEW to XP!

It used to was I'd go: [ START> RUN> MSCONFIG ] and find the startup list and lots of other interesting and informative thingies... that was in the WIN98 days.

    OK: New O.S.

Now what to I type in to >RUN> to access those investigative functions I so fondly remember?

Need I preface everything with [>RUN>CMD>]??? I REALLY liked being able to get "inside" the O.S. but aside of "ipconfig" the [>RUN>CMD>] produces naught for me. Are there a whole new bunch of command line prompts I must learn?

OY! Bring back the days of WIN 2.1 !!!

You can still type MSCONFIG into a Run window and get the applet that will allow you to review and edit certain system functions.

Another couple of commands that might interest you are:

    Code:
     "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe" /categories +all
    and

    Code:
    %windir%\hh.exe ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\ntcmds.chm::/ntcmds.htm

Type either of those into the Run window and you'll get the full system information and a list of command line commands for XP, respectively.

You must include the quotes in that one command. Best way is to copy and paste them.

    Hi frayedknotarts,

Click Start | Run and in the "open" box, type in msconfig and click OK.

As far as as learning a bunch of new command line prompts: nope. However, I would caution you about doing stuff in msconfig. If there's something you don't understand what it's for, do a quick search on the web for info.

And, since you're no stranger here, if you are still in the dark "” ask! You know you get good advice here.

    Hi frayedknotarts,

Forget my post. Surferdude2 was posting the answer as I was typing mine.
