cdrw wont burn

i have a yamaha 2100E. clonecd and roxio 5 are installed and the software goes through the burning process but there is nothing on the disk. I have win xp athlon 1800xp 512 ddr ram.

i have tried primary and sec ide, master and slave, different ribbon cables even a full reinstall of my computer. i installed force aspi 1.7 and the firmware is the latest. i think the drive is buggered but does anyone have any suggestions before i buy a new one?

 

I know this is the dumbest question in the world to ask but I must. Did you finalize the cd?

Those yammys are deadbeats once in awhile. Have you ever, got anything to burn & show? Doesn't Nero5.5 come with that drive? Did you install Roxio or the winxp default Roxio? If you installed uninstall from control panel & install Nero burning rom if ya can. Also some drives & software combos wont work correctly in winxp. I don't know why either!! I had a 12X yammy & had to partition me hard drive, install win98se & whipee it worked fine. Sold that raskel last month too. CAn ya format a cd-rw? If another cd is in the tray can you see it in explorer?

 

yes i finalised the cd. No, direct cd wont format a blank cd. i think i will try it in my dads computer. He is running 98se. I will let you know the outcome and thanks for the input.

 

it wont work on my dads system either. Interestingly its just the writing that wont work, it seems to read ok!

If this burner is still under warranty handle it. If not may I suggest a new 32X liteon, tdk, or plextor?
