    Open My Computer, or Windows Explorer, click on your CD drive once to select it, right click on the CD drive, select Properties from the popup menu, click on the Autoplay tab and check your settings.

    Hope this helps. :)

    yeah, been there, but the e.g the setup of a game or program doesn't start when I insert the CD. Seems like the problem lies deeper in XP :)

    Sorry, for some reason I took it for granted you were talking about music cd's not playing automatically. At any rate, are you logged into your system an Power Users or an Administrator?

    The following knowledge base article from Microsoft, explains why you must be logged on as one of these two users to be able to autostart program or installation CD's.

    http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q314855

    If you are logged on as a Power User, or Administrator, then check your .INF extension settings to see if it is set to Install.

    To do this open Control Panel, click on Folder Options, click on File Types tab, scroll down until you see the INF extension, highlight this, click on Advanced, and under Actions make sure that Install is one of the actions listed.

    In my XP system the INF extension has the following options listed under Actions; Install, Open and Print.

    If Install is not listed click on New and in the open window type Install in the Action window and in the Application used to perform action type the path to the windows install command. In my system the following is the path and command;

    C:\WINNT\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %1

    Hope this helps. :)
