I cannot get the CD-RW drive to recognize a writeable disk. The icon on "My Computer" changes to a disk with a "CD-RW" notation upon inserting the disk. However, if I try to backup or transfer files to the disk, I get an error message that it is an incorrect function. Dell has sent a new drive and I have reinstalled the operating system twice. I have run the "repair" function at least once and have reinstalled the drivers. Nothing works. The Device Manager says the drive is functioning properly. I also have an externat CD-RW/DVD (Iomega). The same thing happens to this drive as well. However, both drives will read a disk and the DVD drive will play a visual DVD. Any comments will be appreciated.

    Thank You

Thank you very much for directing me to the proper site. You have solved the problem. Dell support could not do this after numerous calls to many different technical assistants.

    Cool

Microsoft's knowledgebase is a fantastic source of info. They've pretty much seen it all.

I'm currently involved in a progam with them called the "Windows Feedback Panel." I downloaded some software from them that allows them to monitor one of my "office" pc's...

AMS - glad the link fixed you up.

In defense of Dell (and other companies) tech support, those guys usually don't get paid much and any of them who get really good move on to a job that pays better. Some of them even put in some time on here & other similar forums helping others after they move on. :D

It is a really rare consumer issue when we don't have someone on the forum who's 'been there and done that' for most issues that arise.
