My CD-ROM is installed as slave to the HD.My BIOS detected it as Primary Slave.I have also a Cd-Rom drive with an integrated cd-rw and PD(Model ODX658).It is called Multi CD_R Drive. This drive is connected to the secondary IDE controller by itself in master/slave configuration(factory recmmended settings).
BIOS detected it as Secndary Master and Secondary Slave. It works fine, but my regular Cd-Rom is not assigned any lette in "My Computer ".When I used my startup disk to start the computer,I only have a "Virtual D" and my regular Cd-rom does not work. The door can be open and the lights go on,that's all. These are th letters thar are assgned to my drives in "My Computer ":

    A: Floppy
    C: HD
    D : Removable disk
    E : The multi Cd-r drive.

    What is my problem?

The CD-Rom may need special drivers. You could try a bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com these have a selection of (4?) different drivers.
Search the driver sites for the model of your CD-Rom (or type the model number into a search engine).

If the multi-CD is disconnected does the CD-Rom show up. This would point to a conflict between them.

Have you tried the Add New Hardware wizard?

Jerry72, have you had a look in your Device Manager under CD Rom both your drives should be listed there and you can also check the drive names there or change them if you wish to do so.
I have 2 CD drives Burner and DVD Rom
and have renamed them X & Z and have always done so used the last letter for CD Rom.
    good luck
