I am using win98,When I play a cd in d drive, after I take it out, it still shows this cd as being in. When I put another cd in, it still shows as the previous one and will not open the new one. I have to shut down and restart the computer to play it.

Have you tried to see if it will change if you refresh the screen? You can do this normally by right clicking then choosing refresh. You can also press F5 to do the same job.

I have heard of this sort of problem, try Microsofts Knowledge info base to see if what I have found helps you.

Have you tried clicking the Auto Insert Notification for that drive and then ok-ing it?

Does it Auto Insert when you insert the disc? Does it startup automatically when you put in the disc?

You will find this in System in Control Panel then click Device Manager, then find the cd drive that you are using and open it and then choose the settings tab, you will then see the options.

You might want to try unticking it first, then restart the pc then re tick it then again restart it.
    Hope this helps.

Since you are dealing with "My Computer "....
BEFORE you remove CD number 1 from your D drive, go back to "My Computer ", and click on C drive, then insert CD number 2, go back to "My Computer ", click on D drive, and see, if it still shows CD number 1, instead of CD number 2.

ok, i went into the device manager and the only box checked was the disconnect box. don't know what that does, but i laeft it checked and checked the auto insert box and it did the trick. never knew about that. don't know how it would have gotten unchecked. Thanks tel33 for solving my problem and also broni for trying to assist.
