I have posted this question on another forum but maybe I can get a bit of help again.
Anyone know how to get pc to read the cd drive? It only reads if I shutdown with disc in and re-boot. It may have been ok when I had win 98 but I cant remember. It now has xp pro. I installed a new cd burner where my old drive was and same problem.

See if the information in the MS KB article, CD-ROM Access Is Missing ... is any help.

Although it refers to Easy CD Creator, down at the bottom under "More Information" it says, There may be other third-party CD-writing software products that exhibit similar behavior.

If you didn't install any third-party CD writing software, the information in that article might at least give you a place to start figuring out the problem.

If you have loaded new burning software it's a good idea to disable XP's native burning software.

My Computer > right click on drive > recording
