I just tried to use the CD burner on my IBM Net Vista with XP, formatted a new CD, tried to save a small file, and it informed me that the CD was full. Properties says it is empty. Tried it several times, with two of them; CD-RW650 (1x2x4x), same results every time. Procedure seems to work until I get to that last step.

What program are you using to format the CD? That is not a native XP function.

And how are you trying to save these files? If you format the CD, you need to use some packet-writing software to save to it. The built-in XP burning software burns only ISO (unformatted as packet-writing) CD's and won't work with a formatted CD.

I followed the instructions for IBM's DLA program, which say discs must be formatted, with the results noted above. Following your advice, I tried an unformatted disc, and had no problem.
I don't understand the reason for the DLA instructions, but don't care as long as I have a procedure that works.
Can those 2 CD's that I formatted be "deformatted "?
Thanks very much for your help.
    Don

Don't know if you can recover those or not. Try erasing them with XP's or some other software.

    Thanks. I'll try that.
